The Utah Arthritis Advisory Committee (UAAC)

Who are we?

The UAAC consists of 23 members. Membership is comprised of four non-voting staff members, and 19 committee members representing the Arthritis Foundation Utah/Idaho Chapter; persons with arthritis, Salt Lake City Aging Services, physical therapists, rheumatologists, health plans representatives, community representatives, and a local health department.

What is our goal?

The UAAC advises and assists the Utah Arthritis Program (UAP) in developing and implementing programs to provide education and community-based services for people with arthritis and related conditions, by:

  1. Advising the UAP on arthritis issues affecting the state.
  2. Assisting in the development of policies and procedures to guide the UAP.
  3. Advising the UAP on the development and implementation of Utah’s Arthritis Plan.
  4. Providing feedback to improve the functions of the UAP.
  5. Reviewing the proposed annual program plan for the UAP and providing input.

We have developed by laws to govern our committee.

Current Projects

Currently the UAAC is revising the state arthritis plan. The former State Arthritis Plan was completed in January 2002, and provided an excellent starting point .  However, during the past four years new partners and opportunities have emerged.

The UAAC has formed two workgroups to help revise the state plan.

Arthritis Education/Awareness Workgroup

The Arthritis Education/Awareness Workgroup is focused on providing access to information needed to manage arthritis by increasing arthritis awareness.

Self-Management Promotion/Participation Workgroup

The Arthritis Self-Management Promotion/Participation Workgroup is currently focused on increasing the community resources for arthritis self-management in Utah. Examples of "evidenced-based" resources they are promoting and recruiting for are the Arthritis Foundation's Exercise, Aquatics, and Self-Help Programs.
