DENTAL WORK EXPERIENCE
Family Dental Plan – Ogden, Utah. A public health dentist with the Utah Department of Health, providing dental services to the underserved population in Weber County. Our target population is children who do not have access to traditional dental services through private insurance. Our purpose is to break down barriers of access to oral health care due to poverty, lack of education, cultural barriers, fear of dentistry and belief that people who are not in pain do not need dental care. Access, education and motivation can lead to cavity free children through prevention, early detection and treatment. The staff will evaluate a person’s susceptibility to cavities and gingivitis, demonstrate the best cleaning techniques, motivate patients towards behavior changes and develop a personalized plan to reduce dental plaque biofilm. We explain how certain foods and beverages are detrimental to oral health. A healthy mouth is not just about teeth. It is an indicator of health or disease in other parts of the body.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Family Medical and Dental Clinic - Dallas, Texas. Served as a staff dentist for a community health center providing services for disadvantaged inner city children and families. Served on the Administration Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Quality Improvement Committee and as the OSHA & Radiation Safety Officer. Visited local elementary schools and presented dental awareness and preventive curriculum.
DENTAL EDUCATION
Baylor College of Dentistry (now a component of Texas A&M Health Science Center), Dallas, Texas. Recipient of a State of Texas Academic Scholarship. Dean’s List Honors.
DENTAL ACTIVITIES
Lifelong member of the American Dental Association and current member of the Utah Dental Association. Participation in Give Kids A Smile Program providing dental services and dental educational materials for local elementary schools. Attended national dental conferences in New Orleans, LA; Sedona , AZ; Portland, OR; Orlando, FL and Salt Lake City, UT.
GENERAL INTERESTS
Enjoys the works of Art Wolfe and James Gardiner in wildlife photography. Newspapers – “I shall be the last person to read a newspaper and type on an IBM Selectra Typewriter.”
