Dr. Michelson graduated with honors from Weber State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He attended graduate school at the University of Utah in Biomedical Engineering. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Creighton University School of Dentistry in Omaha, NE in 1987. He also completed a residency at the University of Utah, School of Medicine in 1988. He then operated a private dental office in Sandy, Utah for 21 years. Since 2009 he has been working for the State of Utah in the Family Dental Plan clinic where he now serves as the Assistant Clinical Director and the State Occupation Health Officer. He is also the Utah State Dental Director and Oral Health Program Manager for the Department of Health.

Dr. Michelson has hospital privileges at Alta View Hospital and is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association. Dr. Michelson is a current member of the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors, the America n Dental Association (ADA), the Utah Dental Association (UDA), and is a past (2013-14) president of the Salt Lake District Dental Society. He is an adjunct faculty member of the University of Utah, School of Dentistry and Roseman University, College of Dental Medicine, and the University of Louisville, School of Medicine.
