      On January 31st, the Multicultural Health Network (MHN) will hold their first quarterly Steering Committee meeting to formalize membership and discuss collaboration efforts between Utah’s ethnic community leaders and the public and private sector in efforts to reduce health disparities in Utah.

 

       The Steering Committee will be made up of 16 members: 7 to be nominated by MHN members, and one of the co-chairs from the Policy, CLAS (Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services), and Data committees. The other 6 members will be selected through community mini-grants offered by the Center for Multicultural Health in collaboration with the Office of Ethnic Affairs. All members are expected to meet certain criteria as defined in the Steering Committee Roles and Responsibility sheet.

 

        The first two Steering Committee meetings will include presentations on the history of MHN and an update on their work in 2007, discuss and approved the MHN bylaws,  as well as the committee goals for 2008. The Center for Multicultural Health and the Ethnic Health Advisory Council will be invited to present on their work thus far and their goals for the year to come, as well as their collaboration with the Multicultural Health Network.

 

           The Steering Committee will play a key role in providing leadership and guidance to the MHN,  build and bridge relationships and collaboration between the different sectors as well as provide opportunities to strengthen and build leadership in our diverse ethnic communities.

 

        The nomination period will be open until January 15th, 2008. To nominate someone you need to be a member of MHN. C
