The Mexican Consulate in Salt Lake City promotes different social programs for the Hispanic community through the Institute of Mexicans Abroad. The four major areas of this program include education, health, sports, and culture.
In the health area we are promoting the Binational Health Week (BHW) which is a week of events, facilitated by the California-Mexico Health Initiative, an initiative of the University of California Office of the President, emerge annually from networks forged among agencies and organizations working on migrant health issues and, it turn, foster ongoing collaboration. Main partners include the Secretariats of Health and of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, El Salvador, and Guatemala, the Institute for Mexicans Abroad, the Mexican Social Security Institute, California’s Department of Health Services, The California Endowment, the California HealthCare Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Binational Health Week (BHW) has become one of the largest mobilization efforts in the Americas to improve the health and well-being of underserved immigrants and migrants of Mexican and Central American origin living in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It encompasses an annual weeklong series of health promotion and health education activities that include workshops, treatment and insurance referrals, and medical screenings.
As part of this health week, there will be different health fairs free of charge in the State of Utah:
