Agency NameNational Institutes of Health DescriptionThis funding opportunity announcement (FOA) solicits Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant applications proposing to support health promotion research directed at women, before, during and after pregnancy to improve their health and well-being and that of their infant. The focus of the health promotion research could encompass any of the following areas: development of methods or strategies for testing behavioral theories and/or health promotion models that encourage preventive activities on oral health, conduct of feasibility studies which relate to developing, implementing and evaluating oral health promotion research specific to the target population, and conduct of research that explores innovative approaches to integrate oral health promotion into existing health promotion programs for pregnant women and/or for infants. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will utilize the R21 grant mechanism. The participating organizations intend to commit a total of $1,000,000 to this RFA for payment of applications responsive to this announcement. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications. The anticipated number of awards is 4 to 5. Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the mechanism numbers, quality, duration, and costs of the applications received.
