Environmental Hazards

Environmental damage is another consequence of meth labs.  Meth labs leave approximately six pounds of hazardous toxic waste for each pound of meth produced. Lab operators often pour leftover chemicals and by-products directly onto the ground, down toilets, wells, and storm drains.  Solvents and other toxic chemicals used in the production of meth remain in the soil and groundwater for years posing long-term hazards.  Meth labs have been found in homes, garages, apartments, hotel rooms, recreational vehicles and even cars.
