Herpes

Herpes is caused by two viruses and is transmitted by skin to skin or sexual contact between infected persons. The symptoms may include a burning or tingling sensation, followed by painful episodes at the point of infection. Women often have more severe episodes than men. About one in four adults in the U.S. have latent genital herpes. Less than a third have been diagnosed.
