Skin Infections in Contact Sports Athletes

 

There have been recent reports of skin infections in athletes participating in contact sports such as wrestling, football, etc. These infections are usually not serious, but we need to prevent their spread.

The fact sheet provides information to athletes and their families about skin infections and what to do if you suspect you have a skin infection.

Ways to prevent skin infections in contact sports

This lists some measures that can be taken by athletic organizations to help prevent the spread of skin infections in contact sports. (Note: if showers are not available, over the counter antiseptic skin washes might be an acceptable substitute)

Information for physicians treating wrestlers with skin infections

These are from the NFSH guidelines. It provides a release form for physicians to use to permit wrestlers to return to action. It also provides recommendations for minimum treatment guidelines that physicians should follow.
