Customer Loyalty: Would Enrollees Recommend their Health Plan to Friends and Family ?

Most of us want only the best for our friends and family. A person’s willingness to recommend a plan to friends or family demonstrates a high regard for the quality of care offered by the plan. This question asked respondents whether they would recommend their health plan to a friend or family member who needed care.

According to a national survey conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR), if consumers had to choose between two health plans, a majority of American adults would select the plan strongly recommended by their friends and family members over the plan rated higher in a comparative, plan level consumer report.

The five Utah HMOs all received a strong consumer loyalty rating from the surveyed enrollees.

Five Measures Contributing Most to Enrollees’ Willingness to Recommend Health Plans to Their Friends and Family

  1. Overall quality of medical care and services
  2. Ease of choosing a personal physician
  3. Range of services covered by health plans
  4. Number of doctors enrollees have to choose from
  5. How well medical care meets enrollees’ needs
