About This Report

This report tells you how enrollees in five of Utah’s largest HMO plans felt about the care they received. It is the first in a series of reports that will compare the quality of services provided by Utah’s managed care organizations. Reports like this one, plus additional information from your HMO, doctor, and the Department of Health, will help you make informed plan choices (see Appendix for health plan information resources).

In 1996, over 4,000 Medicaid and commercially-insured enrollees of five of Utah’s HMOs were contacted by telephone and asked in-depth questions about how satisfied they were with their HMOs. This report provides a summary of the results of this first year’s survey.

The Utah Health Data Committee advises readers of this report that the data it contains have limitations and should be thoughtfully considered along with information from your employer, doctor, family, and friends.

HMO plans vary in the benefit packages they offer.

The survey was conducted in 1996--so the data reflect the HMO enrollees’ responses at that time--which may or may not be representative of their responses in 1997.

The survey did not include the entire HMO commercial market--only 65 percent of the HMO market in Utah was surveyed.
