Specimen Required

  • Collect:Isolate, nasopharyngeal swab, nasal wash (0.5ml), throat swab. Dacron swabs preferred
  • Specimen Preparation:Nasopharyngeal swab or throat swab, dry or in < 2ml viral transport medium in a sterile tube
  • Storage/Transport Conditions:Keep at 2 – 8 degrees C (if frozen, transport frozen).
  • Unacceptable Conditions:Do not use calcium alginate swabs.
  • Remarks:Best if sample is collected following a coughing spasm.
