DWS FFN APPROVALS
LICENSE EXEMPT DWS APPROVALS
LICENSE EXEMPTIONS and LICENSE EXEMPT REGISTRATIONS

DWS is the Department of Workforce Services. FFN is the Family, Friend, & Neighbor Program.

According to Utah statute and the exempt rule, some providers and programs are exempt or excluded from child care licensing. Unless the care or program is only for children related to the provider or is only on a sporadic bases, a license or certificate is available but not required.

If you are an exempt home provider, you need a DWS Family, Friend, & Neighbor (FFN) Approval to be eligible for DWS child care subsidy payments.

If you administer an exempt facility or program, you need a License Exempt DWS Approval to be eligible to receive DWS money. This includes child care subsidy payments, grant money, and career ladder incentives.

If you administer an exempt facility or program and do not receive DWS money, you are required to have a License Exemption. You must submit an application and include on that application the number and ages of children in care; have covered individuals who passed the Child Care Licensing background check; and post a License Exempt Notice.

If you are excluded from licensing, another agency may require you to register with Child Care Licensing or you may choose to register with Child Care Licensing.
