Interpreters
for Medical Services
Do
you or someone you know need an interpreter to make an health
care appointment and during the service itself? Interpretive
(translation) services for a health care visit are free
for Medicaid clients. For people enrolled in a Managed
Care Plan (MCP), the MCP is responsible for providing the
interpreter. For clients who are not enrolled
in a MCP, Utah Medicaid pays for the interpreter.
The provider is responsible to arrange for an interpreter.
Medicaid
contracts with several interpretive agencies. When the provider
calls, the agency needs to know the client's Medicaid Identification
number, the language interpretation needed, and the date,
time and place for the medical appointment. The interpreter
may either meet the client at the doctor's office for the
appointment or use a telephone conference call. The
free translation service is available statewide and also
for after-hours care.
Please
let your heatlh care provider know you need interpretive
service as much in advance as possible! Please notify
the interpreter immediately if the medical appointment is
changed or canceled!
