Nutrition

Healthy eating is a key factor

Nutrition, balanced with physical activity, is the main factor in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. Everyone needs food to thrive and stay healthy, and good nutrition will improve the quality and length of life. Unfortunately, many people eat more calories than they burn, leading to an unhealthy weight. Increased portion sizes, eating away from home, and availability of high-calorie foods all contribute eating excess calories which leads to weight gain.

Make the healthy choice the easy choice

Good nutrition helps your family reach their full potential.  Good nutrition provides key nutrients needed for growth, healing, and daily activities.  Help your family achieve their best by supplying the right kinds of foods, with the help of community resources if needed.  Here is one resource with recipes and ideas for you and your family.  In the following sections, you will find several more resources for your use to help your family make the healthy choice the easy choice.
The Utah Department of Health is also working to make healthy eating the easy choice.  The Physical Activity, Nutrition & Obesity (PANO) Program focuses its efforts to address some of the policy and environmental factors that influence food intake by working with community partners and governmental organizations to make the healthy choice the easy choice wherever you are.
