Utah Tobacco Policy Implementation Guides
About the Guides
The purpose of these guides is to serve as a resource for local health departments, community agencies, and other tobacco prevention partners interested in implementing secondhand smoke (SHS) policies at the local level. This guide specifically addresses secondhand smoke policy in worksites, multiple dwelling units, homes, healthcare settings, and outdoor venues. Due to popular demand, businesses, government agencies, and organizations are also finding use for guides.
The guides are based on the action steps provided in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Taking Action Against Secondhand Smoke Online Toolkit. Utah-specific information has been added to action steps in order to account for the Utah Indoor Clean Air Act (UICAA), the Second Hand Smoke Amendments, state laws/rules, and local issues. Information in the revisions of the guides reflects the latest information available at the time of publication.
