UCAN Guiding Principles

UCAN has developed a series of guiding principles which influence and guide the goals, objectives, and strategies of its work. You can read UCAN's guiding principles below.

Collaborate with coalition partners

Together we can accomplish more than we can accomplish alone to reduce the burden of cancer in Utah.

Data-driven and Evidence-based

We support data-driven and evidence-based approaches to address cancer control across the cancer care continuum.

Outreach and Engagement

Patients and their families must be empowered to make decisions based on information presented and shared in a manner they can understand.

Equal Access

We support strategies tailored to the unique needs of diverse patient populations, addressing cultural, linguistic, social, economic, environmental, and other factors to provide access to cancer services to all Utahns.

Elimination of Fragmented Care

We support more effective and equitable use of public and private resources to continuously, transparently, and measurable integrate care and decrease suffering from cancer.

Population-based

Use population-based approaches and changes based on a systems perspective to help reduce the burden of cancer in Utah.

Collective Accountability

Implementation and success of this plan will require robes visionary leadership, broad-based commitment of all participants, and sound stewardship of resources.
