Can pancreatic cancer be prevented?
There are many different things that can increase a person’s risk of pancreatic cancer. Some of these cannot be changed, but others can.
Risk factors that cannot be changed include:
- Age (over age 60)
- Race (African American)
- Family history of gene mutations or other genetic syndromes which make cancer more likely
- Personal history of pancreatic cancer
- Family history of pancreatic cancer
- Diabetes
- Long-term inflammation of the pancreas
