Why is there controversy about the PSA screening test?

Some people feel men should be screened for prostate cancer on a regular basis. Others feel men should be screened for prostate cancer as recommended by their doctor.

Some of the controversy is due to the fact that the PSA screening test (which tests for high levels of prostate-specific antigen) is not specific. It can be high because of cancer, but it can also be high for other reasons.
