Utah! Where Ideas Connect

UTAH CANCER ACTION NETWORK

UCAN is a volunteer coalition and is not a 501C-3.

The mission of UCAN is to reduce cancer incidence and mortality in Utah through collaborative efforts that provide services and programs directed toward comprehensive cancer prevention and control. It is the hope of UCAN that through a collaborative effort, the plan's goals and objectives will be achieved, and the burden of cancer among Utahns will be reduced. These efforts are considered high priority activities that encompass the spectrum of cancer care, including Prevention, Early Detection, Treatment, and Quality of Life.

Many cancer-related programs are categorical in nature; that is, they are built around specific cancer sites (e.g. breast, prostate, lung, etc.) and risk factors (e.g. poor nutrition, use of tobacco, etc.). As a result, there is often lack of coordination and collaboration among these programs, efforts are duplicated, and opportunities for cancer prevention and control may be missed. UCAN seeks to bring together organizations in a collaboration to assess cancer needs, prioritize these needs, and develop a plan to address them in a manner that supports the definition of comprehensive cancer control.
