The fecal occult blood test (FOBT) chemically checks your stool for hidden (occult) blood. Because
about two-thirds of cancers and a few polyps bleed, occult blood may indicate cancer or polyps in the colon or rectum.
The blood often is hidden in the sense that it may be passed in such small amounts that it’s undetectable by the
human eye and can be detected only through chemical testing.
