Listeriosis is an infection caused by eating food contaminated with the bacteria, Listeria. The symptoms consist of a fever, muscle aches, and sometimes nausea and diarrhea. If the infection spreads, symptoms such as a stiff neck, loss of balance or convulsions may also occur.

As Listeria is often found in raw foods and in unpasteurized milk and foods, following proper sanitation guidelines regarding food treatment will best prevent Listeriosis infection
