University Health Care comment related to hospital patient safety tables, injuries to mother, severe vaginal tears with and without instruments (PSI 18 and 19)
The Utah Department of Health provides data to the public that is more than one year old. University Healthcare feels patients need to make decisions for their healthcare based on the most current data available. At University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics, we strive to continuously improve clinical outcomes for our patients. Our quality improvement efforts have resulted in a significant decline in 3rd and 4th degree lacerations in the latter half of 2008. Since August of 2008 laceration rates have improved to 1.5% for vaginal deliveries without use of instruments and 14.7% for deliveries where instruments were required for the delivery.
